(Recommended for 4th grade)
Discuss the changes and challenges of puberty with your child.
One of the core values of St. Paul Lutheran Church is that God designed the family as the primary place for discipleship. The Faith Path initiative exists to partner with you as you guide your child’s spiritual journey one step at a time. Age appropriate kits have been created to help you leverage the best faith formation strategy for your child’s stage of development. In this Preparing for Adolescence kit you will find practical ideas and suggested resources to help you guide your child through upcoming changes. I urge you to start today by taking the following simple steps.
STEP ONE: LEARN
We have provided a short video that explains this particular Faith Path step. You will hear from both experts and ordinary families as they describe the importance of preparing your child for adolescence and share practical suggestions from their experiences. You will also find a guide that offers practical tips and what we consider the best resources on the topic.
STEP TWO: START
To help make the process easier, this kit includes a recipe card entitled Passport 2 Purity: Weekend Retreat. Passport2Purity is a highly recommended format to help parents in intentionally discussing topics associated with adolescence with their kids from a Biblical worldview. To preview this material, contact our Children’s Director or church office. We’ve also provided a Frequently Asked Questions summary from parents of early adolescents. This sheet scratches the surface of topics that you as a parent have the opportunity to discuss with your kids over the next few years.
STEP THREE: TAKE IT HOME EVENT
Every year parents are invited to our “Preparing for Adolescence Take-It-Home Event.” While normally Take-It-Home events are for parents and kids together, this particular event is just for parents. During this time parents will be encouraged and equipped to initiate life-changing conversations with their kids on the topics of puberty, sex, dating, peer pressure and more. This will also include a closer look at Passport2Purity materials.
We hope you find this kit helpful in the process of forming the faith of your child at home. Feel free to visit fallsathome.com/faith-path/ to learn more or determine if your child/children are ready for other Faith Path steps.
